Walton sports fresh lineup

The word that best describes the UF softball team is change.
After losing five starters from last year, Coach Tim Walton has had to shift
his entire lineup, and as a result, center fielder Lacy Howard is the only returning player at the same position.
Fans should expect similar faces in new places when the Gators open their
season at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday. |

Softball Opens 2007 Season with Two Wins in Arizona
The Florida softball team opened the 2007 season the right way Friday
afternoon at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The Gators used timely hitting and strong pitching to earn a 4-0 win over Northwestern State and a 2-1 win over Oregon.
The Florida bats got hot and the Gators took advantage of Northwestern
State miscues to open the scoring in the bottom of the fourth. |

SEC Honors Awarded to 5 Gators
Sophomore Kim Waleszonia earned 2007 All-SEC first team honors.
Senior Melissa Zick becomes the first player in school history to be chosen
for the All-SEC team all four years of her career. Zick was voted onto the All-SEC second team for 2007.
Sophomore Stacey Nelson pitched her way onto the All-SEC second team.
Freshman Francesca Enea was chosen for the SEC All-Freshman team.
Junior Mary Ratliff is Florida's representative on the SEC Community
Service team. |
