Gators enter new season with high expectations

Inside the Gator Dining Complex UF coach Becky Burleigh takes a bite out of her salad and a sip from her bottle of
Gatorade.
It has been nine months since the No.13 UF soccer team's controversial 3-2 loss to UCLA in the Sweet 16, and it seems
Burleigh still hasn't gotten over the loss.
"We were all disappointed with our Sweet 16 loss to UCLA," Burleigh said. "So I think that everyone is poised to go further
than that this season." |

Soccer team adds 4 recruits

Florida's soccer coach, in her 11th year at UF, has recently made an interesting revelation about her team. More is not
always better.
Which is why when Burleigh announced her 2007 recruiting class Monday, it only included four players. Burleigh has
discovered the more players she has, the more players she has to sit on the bench. That often leads to some unhappy teammates.
"It's hard to keep everyone happy when you have a large roster, in my opinion," Burleigh said. "We've learned through the
years we want to keep the numbers smaller. That ensures everyone has a more specific role. It also helps with our team unity."
The four new additions will give Florida 28 players when the season starts next fall. That's a number Burleigh feels
comfortable with.
"We just want to make sure everyone on our team can contribute in some way," Burleigh said. "Only 11 people can play at
once. When you get to 30 people (on your roster), that's when it starts to get unwieldy." |

Halted by torrential rain and spine-tingling lightning, the UF soccer team was forced to wait.
With only 29 minutes passed since the start of play, Saturday's thunderstorms forced both teams to head for shelter,
leaving the Gators to mull over the first goal they had given up to No. 2 Notre Dame just six and a half minutes into the game. |
