10 recruits to enroll for spring semester
As many as 10 members of what figures to be another standout
recruiting class for Florida will enroll at UF next week and begin practicing with the team next spring.
Two quarterbacks -- junior college transfer Bryan Waggener and
Westlake (Ga.) High's Cameron Newton -- are among a small group certain to show up when second semester classes begin in Gainesville on Monday.
Although the date coincides with Florida's appearance in the
national championship game, none of the players will work with the team here this week or participate in Monday's BCS title game.
NCAA rules prohibit Coach Urban Meyer from commenting on
specific players before they sign letters of intent. But last week, he hinted at the windfall. "We've got a lot of them, by the way," Meyer said. |

Other candidates to enroll early include Maryland WR Joe Haden,
California DE Duke Lemmens, Connecticut TE Aaron Hernandez, and Oakland Park RB Bo Williams. Four of UF's six recruits from Lakeland High -- OLs James and LaShawn Pouncey, WR Paul Wilson and DB Ahmad Black could also start classes next week.
UF officials can not confirm early enrollments until the players
begin their academic work. |
