Gators drop season opener to VMI

Florida unveiled a renovated McKethan Stadium Friday night. The Gators'
play, however, didn't sparkle as much as its revamped park.
An opening night crowd of 3,856 watched Florida drop its season opener in
disappointing fashion, 5-3, to Virginia Military Institute Friday night.
The Gators left 10 men on base and committed two errors leading to three
unearned runs in VMI's four-run fifth. Florida scored on solo home runs by third baseman Brandon McArthur and shortstop Jon Townsend, but failed to hit with runners on base. |
