UF kept Tebow's special statistic quiet until the 'right' time

NEW YORK - While some schools have spent thousands of dollars to promote one of their athletes for the Heisman
Trophy, one of the best timed and farthest-reaching ways in which a sports information department helped an athlete win the award cost nothing.
University of Florida sports information director Steve McClain discovered no one ever had rushed for 20 touchdowns and
passed for 20 in one season. When he found out Gators quarterback Tim Tebow was about to become the first 20-20 man in college football history, he held off on revealing the statistic. |
