University of Florida's Mike Pouncey turning heads on defense
BY BRYAN JONES - FLORIDA TODAY

GAINESVILLE - -- Freshman Mike Pouncey continues to impress University of Florida coach Urban Meyer on the
defensive side of the ball.

A day after confirming the converted offensive lineman would play at defensive tackle against Vanderbilt, the coach left the
door open for a possible start by Pouncey.

University of Florida defense finally takes bite out of opponent
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY

GAINESVILLE - The University of Florida defense had been abused in the last few weeks -- giving up 79 points in back-to-
back games and close to 2,000 yards in its last four contests.

But Gators co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison was convinced his unit was ready to play this week, so he went to
head coach Urban Meyer with a request. If UF won the coin toss to open Saturday's 49-22 victory against Vanderbilt, he
wanted to defer to the second half.

New basketball coach Amanda Butler brings an up-tempo mind-set to Gainesville.
By ANTONYA ENGLISH - St. Pete Times

GAINESVILLE - When she was hired as the Florida women's basketball coach in April, Amanda Butler called it a dream
come true. Seven months later, she'd like to revise that statement a little, if you don't mind.

"Part of that is true," Butler said recently. "I have revised that in the past six months to say that it is the beginning of a
dream. Our dream will come true when we are actually cutting down nets and we are putting those crystal balls in the
trophy case and have a lot to cheer for."

Gators' Tebow stirs up Heisman hype
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY
GAINESVILLE - Even University of Florida coach Urban Meyer is joining the hype, whether he meant to or not.

Meyer called Tebow's performance in Saturday night's 51-31 win at South Carolina, "a Heisman performance, and I don't
say that too often."

Tebow, named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday, ran for a school-record five touchdowns and
passed for two more against the Gamecocks. He tied the Southeastern Conference record for rushing touchdowns in a
season (19) and is three away from matching the NCAA record for rushing TDs in a year by a quarterback. Chance
Harridge of Air Force had 22 scores on the ground in 2002.

Florida Gators' wide receiver Andre Caldwell's late-season surge
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY

GAINESVILLE - When Andre Caldwell turned down a chance to leave early for the NFL and return for his senior season,
these last few weeks are what he envisioned.

Caldwell caught nine passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns in a 49-22 win against Vanderbilt on Nov. 3, then followed
it up with a career-best 11 receptions for 148 yards and one score in last Saturday's 51-31 victory at South Carolina.

Florida Gators men's basketball players grow up on court
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY

GAINESVILLE - Florida freshman point guard Jai Lucas looked a little frazzled at the start of the season when he glanced
across the court and saw an opponent with facial hair, tattoos and years of experience.

But four games into the season, the Gators' team filled with freshmen and sophomores is growing up in a hurry. Florida
placed five players in double figures -- four of which are underclassmen -- and rolled past Rutgers 88-63 before 11,522 at
the O'Connell Center on Saturday night.

Florida receiving corps expects big finale against Florida State
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY

GAINESVILLE - First, it was Andre Caldwell's knee. Then, it was Cornelius Ingram's ankle. Now, it's Percy Harvin's head.

But this week finally could be the first time since early in the season the University of Florida has its top three receivers
all close to healthy and on the field at the same time.

Caldwell missed the Tennessee and Mississippi games, but has been a terror in the last few weeks, catching 13, 11 and
nine passes in the past three games to give him 48 grabs for the year. The fifth-year senior also broke Carlos Alvarez's
UF career receiving mark last week and has 177 receptions.

Tim Tebow gunnin' and runnin' for the Gators
Florida Today

Tim Tebow says he isn't thinking about the Heisman Trophy and doesn't even know what his chances are, which is most
assuredly a Pinocchio moment for the University of Florida quarterback.

They all say that.

Team first. Win games. Just love playing football.

All usually true.

But to say you don't think about the most coveted award in college football, and perhaps in all of sports, is a bit of a
stretch.

Gators lose Hampton for season, get ready for Charleston in tourney
By EVAN DREXLER , Alligator Writer

The UF volleyball team lost only its second match of the season Saturday night, but it lost something much more
important toward the end of game three.

With the Gators down 32-31 to Long Beach State, senior outside hitter Marcie Hampton landed awkwardly on her left foot
and had to be helped off the court by teammate Kisya Killingsworth.

In her post-match radio interview, UF coach Mary Wise said Hampton ruptured her Achilles tendon and is done for the
season.

RB Williams to transfer, backup QB Waggener may leave as well
By MIKE MCCALL , Alligator Staff Writer

Freshman running back Bo Williams will seek a transfer from the UF football team this week, and backup quarterback
Bryan Waggener is also contemplating leaving as well.

"I feel I'm not the best back here in the situation," Williams said. "I'm more comfortable in a power offense."

Because he was redshirted this season, Williams will have four years of eligibility at the school of his choice.
