Where are UF's other playmakers?
A void after Tebow and Harvin; offensive line struggled during loss.
By Michael DiRocco, The Times-Union

Florida's spread offense hasn't spread around much the past two weeks. In fact, it has pretty much revolved around
quarterback Tim Tebow and receiver Percy Harvin. The supposed list of playmakers - other than Cornelius Ingram - were
non-factors against Ole Miss and Auburn.

Tebow and Harvin have combined for 54 of the Gators' 73 rushes and 18 of the Gators' 40 completions against the Rebels
and Tigers.

McGinnis one of many Gators rewriting history
By PHIL KEGLER , Alligator Writer

Angie McGinnis may be a stellar setter, but when it comes to setting records, she's a little oblivious.

The senior setter needs only 16 assists to become UF's all-time assist leader, breaking Heidi Anderson's 15-year-old
record.

When asked about it Tuesday, McGinnis said she didn't even know she was close to breaking the record.

The senior laughed as she acknowledged it would be bad for her team if she didn't break the record this weekend,
considering she has averaged 41.6 assists per match so far this season.

Dustin Doe: Crafting a Work in Progress
By Kate Manly, UF Sports Information - gatorzone.com

Most athletes would testify that they have two families: the first is the family they are born into and the second is
comprised of the teammates, coaches and staff who inspire, encourage and support them. For sophomore linebacker
Dustin Doe, each of his families has shaped the person that he has become today. At 20 years of age, Doe is not finished
with the maturation process, both as a student-athlete and as a person.

Mover goes long with UF gear
Melbourne-based Sorensen hauls team equipment to road games
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY

GAINESVILLE - When Florida faces LSU in Baton Rouge on Saturday with huge Southeastern Conference and possible
national title implications on the line, the most valuable person to the Gators may not be quarterback Tim Tebow or UF
coach Urban Meyer.

It just might be Steve Cibulsky.

Gators happy to have bye week in college football
Coach Meyer makes uncharacteristic guarantee UF will come back 'smokin'
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY

BATON ROUGE, La. - Florida coach Urban Meyer vowed the Gators aren't done this season despite a heartbreaking 28-24
loss to top-ranked LSU on Saturday.

"I don't make guarantees," Meyer said. "I don't know if I've ever done this, but I guarantee we'll be back. The Florida Gators
will be back smokin.' "

It's gut-check time for the defending national champions, who squandered any shot at repeating by crumbling in the fourth
quarter before a national TV audience and a sellout crowd at Tiger Stadium. Now, Meyer will find out exactly what this team
is made of.

Bench mob helps out UF volleyball
By EVAN DREXLER , Alligator Writer

While its starters snag headlines, the UF volleyball teams' bench may actually hold the keys to the squad's success.

If leading hitters Marcie Hampton or Amber McCray need to take a breather, freshmen Callie Rivers and Janine Williams
come in and rack up kills.

If libero Elyse Cusack needs a moment, Erin Fleming and Christina Diaz step in to make defensive stops.

If setter Angie McGinnis is given a second to sit down, Alli Cecchini is happy to stand in and set up her teammates.

Butler sets high standards for rebuilding Gators
By PHIL KEGLER , Alligator Staff Writer

One of UF coach Amanda Butler's favorite quotes is, "Your only limitation is your expectation."

If that's the case, then the optimism shown by players and coaches at Wednesday's women's basketball preseason media
day sets no limit at all.

Though last year's record (9-22, 2-12 Southeastern Conference) may say otherwise, Butler said the UF rebuilding process
might not take long at all.

A new everything for University of Florida men's basketball team
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY
The group of Dan Werner, Marreese Speights and Jonathan Mitchell moved into the apartment that was occupied until
recently by Joakim Noah, Al Horford, Taurean Green and Corey Brewer on the University of Florida campus.

Jokingly asked if female fans still knock on the door looking for Horford, Mitchell responded on UF's basketball media day
Wednesday: "No, they know he's gone."

Women's basketball doesn't waste time getting started
By PHIL KEGLER , Alligator Staff Writer

UF may not have held Midnight Madness this year, but that didn't mean the women's basketball players got the night off.

The team held its first practice at 7 p.m. Friday, the exact moment teams were allowed to begin.

Coach Amanda Butler said the team had a great opening practice but then struggled a bit during Saturday's practice,
which followed a community service event that morning.

Coaches, players square off in bye-week scrimmage
By JENNA MARINA , Alligator Staff Writer

What started as an innocent matchup between football players and graduate assistants turned into a battle of sandlot
football between a Division-I coaching staff and its athletes.

Last Thursday, as UF's bye week came to a close, Coach Urban Meyer decided to have some fun with the Gators by
putting on a four-on-four mini-scrimmage during practice.

"I felt like we needed it," linebacker Dustin Doe said. "Who doesn't? At a program like this, dropping two games is huge.
It's devastating to us."

Tebow will stick to being Tebow despite the big hits
By Chris Low - ESPN.com

Perhaps unwittingly, Tennessee's coaches were on to something back in September when they dressed one of their
freshman quarterbacks in a cape to play the part of Tim Tebow in practice the week of the Florida game.

Florida's loss to Georgia has faintly familiar feel
Pete Kerasotis - Florida Today

It felt like old times. Real old. So old that Knowshon Moreno looked like the second coming of Herschel Walker.

Remember?

It's been awhile since it felt this way, the way Florida-Georgia used to be, back in the day, way back when the Bulldogs
held the deed, and the Gators paid rent. Back when they called it a rivalry only because it was polite to do so.

Forward Mitchell hopes to follow In Noah's footsteps
By DANNY KLEIN , Alligator Staff Writer

He may not have the crazy curls, lanky body or scrappy style of play, but Jonathan Mitchell is determined to become UF's
next Joakim Noah.

"Coach (Billy Donovan) hit me with the Joakim Noah story," Mitchell said. "We played the same kind of minutes, and he
told me to just keep working hard, and for some reason I just took it to the heart and worked harder every day."

Similar to the former Gators and current Chicago Bulls forward, Mitchell suffered through an unproductive first year.

Thompson overcomes Hurricane Katrina, difficult past
By PHIL KEGLER , Alligator Staff Writer

The number two represents a lot for sophomore transfer Lonnika Thompson.

First of all, it's her jersey number.

UF coach Amanda Butler will divide playing time between two point guards.

Dig a little deeper and you find that it is the number of high schools she attended.

And UF is her second college.

Gators hurting as Vandy looms
BY DAVID JONES - FLORIDA TODAY

GAINESVILLE - Florida coach Urban Meyer isn't ready to give up on the season after a 40-32 loss to Georgia dropped the
Gators almost out of contention for an SEC title.

But it doesn't look good.

Florida's defense has been abused in recent weeks by opponents and is beat up. So is quarterback Tim Tebow, who was
named one of 15 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award on Monday. And to make matters even worse, Vanderbilt (5-3
overall, 2-3 in the SEC) will face the Gators (5-3, 3-3) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday just one win shy of being bowl eligible.
