'Godmother To The Gators'

The woman who made less than $2 an hour had an idea, and the University of Florida's football coaches listened.

At a meeting in 1980, Florida coach Charley Pell and assistants Joe Kines and Sonny McGraw gave their full attention to
the minimum-wage secretary they'd hired the previous year to keep track of Florida's recruiting efforts. Betty Ling had
dreamed up a new way to impress visiting prospects by imagining what might sway her to choose Florida over another
school.

10 recruits to enroll for spring semester

As many as 10 members of what figures to be another standout recruiting class for Florida will enroll at UF next week and
begin practicing with the team next spring.

Two quarterbacks -- junior college transfer Bryan Waggener and Westlake (Ga.) High's Cameron Newton -- are among a
small group certain to show up when second semester classes begin in Gainesville on Monday.

QB Leak has endured many ups and downs in UF career

Chris Leak has thrown for more yards than any other quarterback in University of Florida history.

But Jemalle Cornelius will always remember UF's senior quarterback for what he did with his legs.

Meyer predicted title meeting with Buckeyes

During a two-day idea swap between Ohio State and Florida defensive coaches last spring at UF, Gators Coach Urban
Meyer leaned into a conference room and foretold the future.

"I remember joking around, saying, 'See you in the big one,' " he said after Wednesday's practice in Paradise Valley, Ariz.

Gators feel a lack of respect

The Gators were never going to be the kind of team that was just going to be happy to be here, playing Ohio State for
the Bowl Championship Series title.

But now Florida's players are upset and feel slighted because of a BCS pregame publication that was passed around
among them in Gainesville.

Fresh Perspective

Tim Tebow will be buzzing with nerves when Florida and Ohio State meet Monday night in the BCS title game.

That shouldn't come as a surprise. Tebow always gets nervous before games.

"I'm sure I'll have a few nerves," Tebow said. "I feel nervous before every game. I was nervous before Western Carolina."
Gator Football - 1/5/07
Leak, Tebow Bond Through Gators' Success

Chris Leak and Tim Tebow could have been rivals. Instead, the Florida quarterbacks became friends and saved the
rivalry for Florida's opponents. "My competition is not with my teammates. My competition is with the teams we play,"
Leak said Thursday. "I was willing to do whatever it takes for us to have an advantage offensively."
Gator Football - 1/5/07
Florida's ground game has become an unconventional attack

Here we are at the end of Year 2 and Urban Meyer still doesn't have the dominant tailback he's looking for in his spread
offense.

This, of course, has created the perception the Gators are not a very good running team.

Gators aim for SEC title

Joakim Noah couldn't help but look ahead.

Moments after Florida's 75-70 comeback win over UAB, the last quality test before Southeastern Conference play, the
ebullient junior forward already had his mind focused on another prize.

Florida Gymnasts Open Season with Super Six Challenge Team Title

After runner-up finishes in its previous two Super Six Challenge appearances, the No. 3 University of Florida gymnastics
team moved up to the top position Friday, claiming its first team title for the event Friday evening in front of a Barnhill
Arena crowd of 2,066. Florida, making its seventh appearance in the event, becomes the third program (Georgia - titles in
2002, '01, '03, '05 and Alabama - 2000, '01, '04, '06) to take the Super Six Challenge crown.

UF's defense at the forefront

Gators coach Urban Meyer gives his defense - anchored by a speedy front four - the credit for making tonight's title game,
but will it be enough to stop a potent Ohio State offense?

Can Ohio State be stopped?

And the sky that kisses the college sports summit is now a decided hue of Gator blue.

Florida first to hold football, hoops titles at same time

Call it the Gator Slam.

The Florida Gators became the first program to hold football and men's basketball titles at the same time Monday night
with a 41-14 victory over top-ranked Ohio State.

The basketball team won its first championship in April, beating UCLA 73-57 in Indianapolis. The football team claimed
its second title -- the Gators also won in 1996 -- with similar ease.

Meyer makes it clear: It's Tebow's team now
Several freshmen helped lead UF to the national title, but the most intrigue for 2007 surrounds Tim Tebow.

The national championship hadn't been in Florida's possession much more than 10 hours when Urban Meyer threw down
the challenge.
Gator Women's Basketball - 1/12/07
No. 4 Tennessee Downs Florida 80-58 in SEC Women's Hoops Action

Junior Depree Bowden (Palmetto, Fla.) just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, and sophomore
Marshae Dotson (Columbus, Ohio) also scored in double figures with 20 points, but it wasn't enough for the University of
Florida women's basketball team to overcome a staggering 25-0 game-opening run by No. 4 Tennessee Thursday night in
an 80-58 loss at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

The 'New Ball Coach' won't follow in Spurrier's footsteps

Now that he's won a national championship, everyone is stating the obvious -- that Urban Meyer is the next Steve
Spurrier.

Right idea, wrong icon.
Gator Football - 1/12/07

UF's Humphrey Has Hot Hand

University of Florida center Al Horford introduced a new term into the basketball vernacular a few days ago: the Lee
Humphrey Shot. According to Horford, the shot is as automatic as a layup or a dunk - except that it originates from 3-
point range and can come only from the hands of a certain aw-shucks sharpshooter from Maryville, Tenn.

Gymnastics give Gators another # 1 team

For just the third time in program history, Florida's gymnastics team has vaulted all the way to the top. Coach Rhonda

based on the total season average. They are then ranked based on regional qualifying score.

New digs for Gators

This season, if the Gators find themselves down in the bottom of the ninth and with their last hope at bat, McKethan
Stadium might rumble a little bit louder than it has in previous seasons.

It's not an acoustics trick, but rather the sound of an extra 1,000 fans cheering on the team.
