Gov. Crist visits UF to learn about ethanol production

During a special visit to UF on Friday, Gov. Charlie Crist praised UF's
groundbreaking new method for creating ethanol.
Lonnie Ingram, a UF microbiologist, showed Crist the laboratory where
Ingram has worked for more than 20 years developing a gasoline alternative from plant waste.
Crist also met with UF coaches Urban Meyer and Billy Donovan to
congratulate them and wish them luck.
Ingram uses a harmless strain of E. coli bacteria to convert sugars in wood,
grass, leaves and stems into ethanol, a cleaner-burning, more efficient fuel, he said in an interview before the presentation. |
