CLAS converts salary to TVs for office lobby
By THOMAS STEWART - Alligator Contributing Writer
Despite an accruing $4 million debt, the UF College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences Academic Advising Center just got a set of flat-screen TVs.
The two 32-inch Westinghouse LCD TVs, currently in the lobby of the
advising center, are used to display "things like information blurbs on
majors in CLAS or summer study abroad opportunities or new course
offerings," said Albert Matheny, associate dean of CLAS and director of the
AAC, in an e-mail.
When there is nothing new to tell students, the TVs are set to CNN, he
said.
Although funds are tight, he said they could afford to purchase the $599
TVs because a graduate assistant was unable to work and they could not
replace him, so they converted his salary.
