Portable air conditioners OK’d for use in Buckman, Thomas halls
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida has approved the use of
portable air conditioners in Buckman and Thomas halls for this year.
Buckman and Thomas Halls housed the entire UF campus in 1906 and are
on the National Historic Register. Today, they are the only UF residence halls without air conditioning. Both halls have been popular housing assignment choices for more than 100 years. In fact, most residents assigned to these facilities request the assignment based on location, hall traditions and lower rent costs. However, some residents are assigned to these two halls when all other residence halls are full. They have lobbied the hardest for air conditioning options over the years. |
