Machen's plan may face Crist's opposition
By CHAD SMITH - Alligator Staff Writer
YULEE - At a wilderness preserve stocked with rhinoceroses, okapi and
other exotic and endangered species, UF's highest governing body met Monday and discussed looming extinctions for the administration's proposed tuition hike and the early decision admissions program.
UF President Bernie Machen told the Board of Trustees at its retreat that
the Academic Enhancement Program, which would charge incoming students an additional $1,000 per year beginning in the Fall, most likely won't make it through Tallahassee this Legislative session because of Gov. Charlie Crist's opposition to tuition hikes. |
