Ticket prices going up

The price for a seat in The Swamp has gone up.

The UF ticket office announced Tuesday a slight increase in season and
single-game ticket prices for the 2007 football season.

Even though the announcement comes a little more than two weeks after
the Gators' victory over Ohio State in the national championship game,
the increase is not related, said Bill Holloway, UF's assistant athletic
director for ticket operations.

"This was approved by the (UAA's) financial committee board of directors
in December," Holloway said. "It was not a result of winning the national
championship. This (increase) moves us right in line with other schools in
the Southeastern Conference."

The seven-game season ticket package has increased to $224 from $196,
meaning season ticket holders and boosters will pay $32 for each game
ticket, compared to $28 a year ago. Single-game tickets have gone up
from $35 to $40 per game.

The price of student tickets has not changed - $10 for single-game tickets
and $70 per season ticket.

Holloway said the increases will generate an additional $1.5 million in
revenue for the season.

"It's the cost of doing business," Holloway said. "We don't anticipate
another increase for another four or five years."

In 2006, UF's cost for a single-game ticket ($35) was in the middle of the
pack in the SEC, along with Arkansas and Mississippi State. Alabama
had the highest single-game ticket price ($60), followed by Tennessee
($50), Auburn ($50), LSU ($45), South Carolina ($40) and Vanderbilt ($40).

"We need to be in the ballpark with the other (top) schools in the SEC,"
Holloway said.

UF instituted a similar increase in football tickets a year ago, with the cost
going from $25 per ticket to $28 per ticket for boosters and season ticket
holders. Single-game tickets went from $32 to $35. It was the first time
the school had increased ticket prices since the 2001 season.

Despite the most recent increase, UF's single-game ticket prices still fall below those of some other traditional football
schools, including Ohio State ($59), Michigan ($55) and Florida State ($48).

A few months after winning the national championship in basketball this past spring, UF announced a 50 percent
increase in general admission tickets ($12 to $18) and raised contributions for booster seating up to 87 percent. UF said
those increases were made to help fund capital improvements in the O'Connell Center, including a video replay board and
replacing the existing floor.
