UF contributes nearly $6 billion to Florida economy
The University of Florida, the state's largest university and one of the biggest research universities in the nation,
contributes nearly $6 billion annually to Florida's economy and is responsible for nearly 75,000 jobs.
So concludes a new study of UF's economic impact by three UF specialists in regional economics.
Alan Hodges, David Mulkey and Thomas Stevens in UF's food and resource economics department analyzed the
university's total revenues, spending, student enrollment, campus visitors and other data for fiscal year 2005-06. |

Gainesville beats out 400 cities at No. 1

For some local residents, Gainesville's motto "Every path starts with passion" gives meaning to the city they love.
Still, it's easy to be passionate about a city that keeps on winning, with three recent national championships and a new
award to add to the list.
Gainesville was recently named the No. 1 city in Cities Ranked & Rated, an 850-page report published earlier this
month. |
